Mechanical design and woodworking

Ethan brings a mechanical engineering background to hands-on design and fabrication. Bishopcraft shows his work in custom furniture, cabinetry, built-ins, millwork, and the restoration of vintage machinery. The project gallery gives a closer look at the actual work.

ENGINEERING, LEADERSHIP & ENTREPRENEURSHIP

From an idea to something people can use.

Product development and manufacturing connect Ethan’s engineering work to the workshop: CAD/CAM, prototyping, testing, quality, and process improvement. His experience spans lighting, furniture, automotive products, marine projects, and manufacturing systems.

Founding Bishop Woodcrafts brought design, quoting, fabrication, and installation into one practice. Other work has involved production teams, vendor relationships, and making a design practical to manufacture.

At the University of Delaware MakerGym, Ethan helped develop a shared makerspace, its equipment, and the training that let students and faculty use it. Sharing the ability to make things is a continuing thread through the work.

Professional background

Experience includes Bishop Woodcrafts, Eagle Group, Worton Creek Marina, Mishimoto, Stateline Speakers, Procter & Gamble, Mayzon, Luxtech, and the University of Delaware MakerGym.

BEYOND THE WORKSHOP

Making, learning, and community.

Ethan’s interests include restoring vintage American woodworking machinery and an older Townsend home, sailing, skiing, and mountain biking. Community work has included local theater set design and stage management, Scouting, and leadership education.

The aim running through his earlier site still fits Bishopcraft: to share an enthusiasm for making, and to put design and practical skills to use in the wider community.
